MATH
4th grade math is tough! It really helps to know all of your multiplication facts. Here are some other things you can do! Also, at the bottom of the page, there are a variety of websites that can be used to practice math skills in a fun and interactive way!
To help your student improve their math skills there are a number of things you can do with the student at home:
- Use the family Math packets sent home at the beginning of each chapter. These packets contain optional activities and practice problems for you to do at home. All of the answers are at the bottom of the sheets, and they often include games or activities to complete with your student.
- Go over homework assignments. The students will have homework a couple of nights a week. These are often worksheets.
- On nights they have no homework, it can be helpful to go through problems in the book. We often don't do these in class, so they are great examples for extra practice.
- Practice basic skills. Flashcards are a great way to continue to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If your student is still struggling with any of these skills, they should be practicing each night.
- Use some of the websites below. Many contain math games that encourage students to practice their skills in a fun way.
- Encourage your student to ask for help. If they feel confused about a new topic, encourage them to come and have me help them work through some problems.
- As always, if you feel there are still issues, please contact me to help establish a plan!
